Popular Quilting Classes

Are you thinking about taking a quilting class, but aren't sure which one is for you? If you have never made a quilt before, you might consider taking one of the beginner classes. Sometimes, you can find these at libraries, community centers, local adult education centers, and churches in your community. They are also available online. Beginners classes cover all the basics, including the stitches to use, materials that work well together, the type of batting to use, and finishing touches.

Other classes that are offered include a sampler class that teaches embellishment techniques, a stitching class that teaches embroidery and different kinds of threads to use for it, and hand quilting classes that show you the techniques of making a quilt totally by hand. Other classes that are of special interest include classes on making baby quilts, wall hangings, runners and lap quilts.

Some areas have quilting clubs, where they also teach many different techniques to their members in the art of quilting. This may include the block of the month. The block of the month is a certain type of square that is picked by the members. Everyone in the club will work on that particular pattern at the same time. A quilting club is a great way to learn and hone your skills.

There are specialty classes that show you how to make a certain design quilt, such as one out of pieces cut in hexagons and arranged in a certain way, or one made from star pieces. These are usually designs for the more experienced quilter, so they are a great place to go once you have mastered the basics.
