Organizing a Quilting Retreat

Organizing a quilting retreat can turn into a lot of work and planning. It would be best if there were at least two persons involved in planning the retreat to help lighten the load on each individual.

First of all, you need to find a place for the retreat that would accommodate several quilters and be large enough for several long work tables, mats, and quilting frames. It needs to either be in a facility that has lodging and a restaurant or at least close to the facility of the retreat. It should be in an area where there could be recreation such as walking trails, scenery, picnic areas, or games rooms where the participants can go to get away from quilting for other forms of relaxation.

Setting the dates, fees for the retreat and then advertising is very important. Creating a website would be very beneficial for advertising, along with local advertising. A theme is important for a special incentive for the retreat. Starting new projects using the original theme as a group or the quilters can bring their own unfinished projects to work on. There should be time for shopping trips to quilt supplies stores or to some quilt museums along with just some quite time.

A good suggestion for a quilter's retreat would be to choose a special kids' hospital and make quilts for the children. These children would be excited and honored to receive these special made quilts and their parents would be very appreciative of the special attention. This would also be very rewarding to the quilters.
