The art of quilting has been around for many years. It has been handed down from generation to generation from the time the pilgrims landed at Plymouth Rock. There even used to be groups of women that would get together and hold 'Quilting Bees'. Times have changed and even some of the techniques of quilting have changed. It is now possible to use a sewing machine to quilt. Whether you quilt by hand or by machine, you still have to piece the quilt together. There are a couple different types of piecing techniques and here are a few good tips.
Chain piecing is one technique that can be used to piece a quilt together. It may prove to be a little bit more difficult than other techniques. After you have cut your quilt pieces, you lay them out in a row, with right sides together. Then take a medium hot iron and use it on the top of each pair. This should hold them together long enough for you to sew them together.
Another type of piecing a quilt is called, "Paper Piecing." This method can prove to be a little more time consuming because you actually sew the material onto the paper. However, what makes the finished product come out a little more precise is that you can use paper that has a pattern that is numbered. Once all the fabric has been sewn to the paper, you can tear the paper off.
Whichever way you decide to piece a quilt, it is going to take time and patience to complete a quilt.
