Many quilters suggest that quilting classes are helpful, particularly for beginners. At fabric stores one can usually find a posting of quilting classes that are scheduled.
There are many positive aspects for taking a quilting class. The quilter is in a group setting which is an ideal place to share ideas, discuss problems, products, projects and other issues that are important to the quilter. If one is a beginner the asking of questions helps the quilter to zoom right in on his/her particular problem. It is helpful for the quilter to join in the conversation. It is a safe environment for quilters and the common interest in quilting is the key to making friendships with others in the quilting class. One can ask questions without embarrassment. Chances are that others in the group also need further thought regarding the same type of questions. Quilting classes can be helpful for beginning quilters as well as those who have had some experience quilting.
Teaching a quilting class is an important avenue for showing leadership for the person(s) who have had past experience in quilting. The successful leader should show enthusiasm, guidance and patience. The teacher must be creative encouraging, supportive and knowledgeable to be of most help to members of the class. The quilting class can be very helpful in that very quickly the member(s) can learn different techniques, how to put colors together, how to finish the quilt and other techniques that take one to a higher level of quilting without the cumbersome and time-consuming job of trying to work it out alone from written directions.
