If you are one of the crafters that considers yourself to be an avid “quilter,” then you are probably already aware of all of the places in your area to “shop hop” for your quilting materials and supplies. If that is the case, you may want to peruse the rest of the article to see if you are missing any. However, if you are just starting out in the “quilting” craft, you may find this information most helpful as you progress with your new hobby.
In order to find the best buys on fabrics, supplies, and other materials needed for quilting, you will find it pays to “shop hop” around. The obvious places, depending on the areas in which you live, are usually fabric franchises such as JoAnn Fabrics, Calico Corners, or even fabric outlet stores. If you are in very rural areas, you might very well find your quilting supplies at a general store, a sewing machine store, or you may even be lucky enough to have a specialty quilt store. However, if you are limited on finding local shops to get the quilting supplies you need, then you really need to check out the variety of “shops to hop” online such as KeepSakeQuilting.com, or Quiltpatchlane.com. Another great site to try is Hotfrog.com/products/quilting. For many, this online option is most helpful because of limited time and access to shopping outside the home.
Most all shops that carry quilting items will have a complete supply of what you need, even if the supply is limited on choices. You will find that the larger the shop is, the wider variety you will find in all quilting items, whether it is pattern books, fabrics, or tools and miscellaneous supplies.
