There are many places to shop for quilting material. When you start a new quilting project, the first place you should look for fabric is around your house. You can use old clothes, such as jeans, or cotton shirts. Also look for any scrapes of fabric you may have around left over from a sewing project.
The cheapest places to shop for fabric is Walmart, Jo-Ann Fabrics, and Hobby Lobby. They all have a big selection of cotton fabrics appropriate for quilting.
However, the quality is not as good as your local quilt shops, so the fabric may be more likely to fade.
Shopping online is another place to get your quilting fabric, and there are many places online. You will want to check out places for discontinued fabrics and seasonal sales. Shopping online can become expensive if you have to pay for shipping charges. There are some online places that will not charge for shipping if you buy a certain amount of fabric.
Flea markets can be another good source to find quilting fabrics. Sellers are liquidating their supplies, and you can find some really good deals. Also, garage sales are another place to find fabrics at really reasonable prices.
Most quilters want to touch and feel their fabrics before they buy, so their local quilt shop may be the best choice for them. Keep an eye out for when they mark down their fat quarters, jelly rolls and charm packs; sometimes you can get these products for over 50 percent off.
Buying the most inexpensive fabric is not always important when shopping for quilt fabric. You want beautiful colors that go good together that you will make into a work of art that you will be proud of.
