When you think of quilting, most people think of women sitting around a frame enjoying each other's company and sharing all kinds of history of each other's family. They just love to be with each other and enjoy quilting and sharing all kinds of memories that they have.
The most popular quilting is done by hand like the older generation did back in the early 1900s. There are some people that carry the tradition on to the next generation. There are ways that you can learn how to quilt if you have no one in your family that learned the tradition and you would like to learn. There are a lot of how to do it yourself books out there that can help you.
There are some women that make quilts for auctions and county fairs to auction off to help someone in need. Sometimes they will sell the quilts to raise funds for a sick family member or friend.
There are a lot of unique designs for quilts. With all the fabric choices and patterns the opportunities for making a one-of-a-kind quilt are basically endless. There are quilts that you can make from scratch and some that you can make by piecing together. Quilting is a great way to let your creativity go wild! You can design the quilt to be anything you want. Some are very simple with only one or two colors and some are very intricate. Make sure that you have enough time to complete the quilt before starting as some of the more intricate quilts can take a long time to complete.
