There are several models of sewing machines on the market. Each has its own merits and after some research you will be able to choose the one that suits your needs. Many companies make machines that are good for the beginning sewer to the experienced seamstress that might need more than the basic stitches.
The Brother PC210 works well for the beginning sewer or someone getting back into sewing. It has 50 stitch settings, six point feed dogs to ensure a good grip on the material, large sewing bed, fast bobbin winding, fast needle threading, pressure foot adjusting and leveling, and several other features. They also have the model PF700II that is computerized for embroidery.
The Singer model 1507 is a very basic machine. It has 35 stitch settings, a buttonholer, built in sewing light, adjustable pressure foot and a sturdy body. Very good for the beginner because it will allow them to grow without a lot of cost. Singer also makes more expensive models that will have more stitch settings and machines that will do embroidery.
Janome sewing machines run from the very inexpensive model 1117S that is an extremely basic machine. It will do the basic stitches and has a high pressure foot to accommodate thicker materials. Their model MC65000P is called the best kept secret of the industry because it’s such a work horse. It’s computerized, had 175 stitch settings, does monogramming, is jam proof and has a separate motor for bobbin winding.
As you see, the choices are numerous. Half the fun will be choosing the one you want.
