Shop-Hopping

Shop-hopping is becoming an increasingly popular way to visit many different stores relating to one interest. Whether it be shopping for clothes or visiting art galleries or craft shops or quilting shops, shop-hopping allows you to spend a day on a bus with like-minded people doing what you like to do best. Generally coordinated by one store or interest group, a bus is chartered and numerous stores are visited in one or two days.

A quilting shop-hop would include fabric stores, craft stores and quilting supply stores. Generally all the quilters will meet at a central location where you will receive a “passport.” These passports are stamped at each shop. Many tours include meals, goody bags, discount coupons, samples and some small supplies. There can be prize drawings at the end of the tour, with the members who have collected all the stamps on their passports being eligible to win.

A shop-hopping tour can be economic, the cost of the tour is usually less than the cost of gas and wear and tear on your car. It can be fun and being among many people who share your same interests can be very informative, also. You can get lots of ideas, get bargains on fabrics and quilting supplies and see a wider variety of fabrics than you could see in just one local store. You can accomplish in one or two days what might take several weeks on your own. A shop-hopping tour could be just what the doctor ordered for someone just starting out quilting.
