Quilting Classes

There are quilting classes for beginners to learn the basics as well as classes for expert quilters to sharpen their skills. Many of the classes are inexpensive and all of them are fun.

Fledgling quilters can find classes that teach the basics such as quilting terms, tools and techniques. The classes are designed for those who have not had any experience in quilting and need instruction from picking out the fabric all the way up to the final stitch. Many classes assume you have some sewing experience for make sure to brush up on your basic sewing skills before starting class. Beginners’ classes are held all over the country and prices range from about $12 per session to $50 per session. Most of the skills can be learned in only 4 one hour sessions and by the end you will have your first quilt.

Advanced quilters have a broader range of classes to choose from. These include more advanced techniques such as hand embroidery and machine quilting. Expert quilters will also have the chance to learn how to make more intricate and complex designs. These classes are a bit more expensive and range from about $25 - $100 per session. These skills take a bit more time to learn and often 5 to ten sessions are needed to perfect them.

Quilting classes can be a fun way to spend an evening (or ten!) with like minded people who enjoy quilting as much as you do. Besides the skills you’ll learn and the beautiful quilts you’ll make, you’ll also undoubtedly make a few new friends too.
